Sample Petition and Letter to Ann Day

SAMPLE PETITION

WHEREAS, the Catalina Foothills School District has included in its construction plans for the Early Childhood Development Center to be located adjacent to the La Paloma neighborhoods an entrance and exit into the Center to and from Campo Abierto, and

WHEREAS, Campo Abierto is the only entrance and exit to the La Paloma neighborhoods for the high volume of commercial traffic that serves the neighborhoods, especially during the early morning and mid-afternoon hours, and

WHEREAS, Campo Abierto serves as the principal entrance and exit to the neighborhoods for a majority of the residents of the north portion of La Paloma, and

WHEREAS, the use of Campo Abierto as an entrance and exit to the Districtís new Early Childhood Development Center will create significant and irremediable safety issues for residents of the La Paloma neighborhoods, people employed in the La Paloma office complex and the young children, and their parents and guardians, attending the pre-school center,

NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE KNOWN that we the undersigned, all of whom are residents of the La Paloma neighborhoods, OBJECT, on the strongest possible terms, to the use of Campo Abierto by the Catalina Foothills School District for an entrance and exit to its new Early Childhood Development Center.

And here is the letter:

Dear Ms. Day:

CAMPO ABIERTO ENTRANCE TO

EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT CENTER

I am enclosing a Petition, signed by 60 residents of the Paloma Encanto neighborhood of La Paloma, which expresses strong opposition to the use of Campo Abierto by the Catalina Foothills School District for an entrance and exit to its new Early Childhood Development Center. I obtained these signatures by visiting 38 of the 49 homes in our neighborhood. Residents of the remaining homes were away when I attempted to contact them. Only two part-time residents of one home declined to sign the petition.

The government of Pima County is, as I understand it, responsible for traffic safety in the County, so I am respectfully submitting this Petition to you. All of those who signed the Petition are confident you will carefully consider the message it is intended to communicate.

Yours truly,

Cc: (including Petition, without signatures)

Mr. C. H. Huckelberry, Country Administrator

Dr. Mary Kamerzell, Superintendent, Catalina Foothills School District

Dr. Robert Barbee, President, Paloma Encanto Homeowners Association
